Journal of Amateur Cinema & Media

The  Journal of Amateur Cinema & Media was launched on October 28th, 2026, alongside the Call for Papers for the inaugural issue due to be published in early 2028.

The Journal of Amateur Cinema & Media is the first academic journal dedicated to a wide-ranging and methodologically rigorous analysis of amateur cinema and media cultures.  It is a peer-refereed scholarly journal acting as a robust platform for interdisciplinary scholarship and creative perspectives on the history and role of amateur cinema and media in shaping global cultures and communication.  The journal is published twice a year and serves as a forum for original research engaging with historical, technological, theoretical, geographical, archival, and practice-led research and curatorial frameworks, including user-generated media, VR and AI.  The journal actively encourages dialogues across pertinent media platforms and specific methodologies while aiming to periodically host guest-edited issues responding to urgent theoretical and methodological agendas.  As amateur media continues to reshape contemporary cultures, the journal welcomes work from established scholars with longstanding expertise in the field as well as from those bringing fresh perspectives to most urgent issues.  This guarantees that the published scholarship is as inclusive, dialogic, and globally informed as the field demands.

The editors welcome:

  • Full-length articles (8000 words, including references)
  • Research projects overviews (5000 words)
  • Interviews (3000 words)
  • Conference and festival reports (2500–3000 words)
  • Review essays of books or films (3000 words)
  • Commented archival documents and projects (5000 words)

The deadline for complete submissions for the inaugural issue is 15 January 2027.
