From the Archives

July 2012 – ‘Enthusiasts: archive‘– a collaborative artwork based on extensive research amongst the remnants of amateur film clubs in Poland under socialism.

June 2012 – The Centre of South Asian Studies, University of Cambridge, has recently digitized over 30hrs of amateur films made in South Asia between 1920s and 1970s. The material will soon be researched, shot listed and made available online, pending funding availability. In the meantime, here is a short excerpt from Frankie Williams Collection (8mm, b/w and colour, c. 1950-60s) showing scenes of young men from Himalayan villages at a Gurkha recruitment and regimental training centre (possibly) in Nepal, c. mid/late 1950s. The clip is shown here with permission from the Centre of South Asian Studies (CSAS). Excerpt: Frankie Williams Collection – Gurkha recruitment scenes
