Press release: On Friday September 28th, the annual ‘Dag van de Amateurfilm’ (‘Amateur Film Day’) will take place during the Netherlands Film Festival. The theme this year is ‘Congratulations!’, which allows us to celebrate several anniversaries and milestones in the field of amateur film. At 11.00h the Day kicks off with the celebration of the centenary of the first successful format for the home movie market, 28mm film. Our guest presenter, Brian Giles, will travel from the UK with his projector and will screen a rare collection of original 28mm films, including a home movie from the 1910s. This presentation will be in English and further information in English about this is available on our website http://www.stichtingamateurfilm.nl/site/Artikelen.htm. In the afternoon at 14.00h, NOVA, the Netherlands organisation for audiovisual amateurs that is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, will be giving a presentation. They will offer a look into their rich history and will be screening films from their own archive. This program section will be followed up with a presentation by Lotte Belice Baltussen about the Amateur Film Platform. This new project, launched by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, the municipal archive of Rotterdam, the audiovisual archive of Groningen and the Limburgs Museum, can certainly also be considered a milestone. Finally, the Day will conclude with the première of the fifth production by Jongeren Cultuurhuis Kanaleneiland. This marks the fifth collaboration with the Stichting Amateurfilm, and that anniversary should be celebrated. There is no entrance charge for the day. You will however need to get tickets at the box office of the Netherlands Film Festival. It is also possible to reserve tickets via www.filmfestival.nl. Please note: this edition of the Day will not be held in the Louis Hartlooper Complex, but in Theater Kikker in Utrecht. Also, we would like to remind our international guests that only the first presentation will be in English. For more information please visit www.stichtingamateurfilm.nl.
